In July 2023, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg visited the St. Louis region to announce significant federal investments in the area’s public transit infrastructure. Coinciding with MetroLink’s 30th anniversary, Buttigieg joined local leaders—including Mayor Tishaura O. Jones, Senator Dick Durbin, and Congresswoman Cori Bush—to highlight nearly $28 million in disaster relief funding for Metro Transit. This funding supports recovery efforts from the devastating July 2022 flash floods that damaged light-rail tracks and equipment
